music gallery news,LOUDNESS,KUALA LUMPUR: Many dream of being a rock star, and even more dream of being onstage with their idols.
Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, better known as Amy, the frontman of local rock legends Search, will achieve a major dream on July 24 when he performs as guest artiste with Japanese heavy metal group, Loudness, which was co-founded by electric guitarist Akira Takasaki.
The show, billed "Loudness Live in Kuala Lumpur", coincides with their 30th anniversary and will also feature veteran Malaysian rock acts Satira, Sofea and Shewolves. The venue is the KL Live nightspot, first floor, Life Centre, Jalan Sultan Ismail.
"I had the opportunity to watch Loudness perform live at Sentosa Island, Singapore in 1990," said Amy who will turn 53 on July 28.
"After the show, I was invited to have dinner with them as the organisers who brought them to Singapore were my friends."
Amy said he never thought Loudness would one day perform in KL, or that he would share the stage with them. Interestingly, both Search and Loudness were formed in 1981.
"Their songs have inspired me and it's an honour to perform one song with them in their show," said Amy who is planning Search's 30th anniversary tour which kicks off later this year.
"I've selected Shadows of War, one of their best songs and my personal favourite. I can sing most of their songs, you know."
Shadows of War, the title track of Loudness' 1986 album, was included in their Lightning Strikes album specially for the US market also released the same year.
Loudness currently comprises Akira (aged 50 on Feb 22), vocalist Minoru Niihara, bass guitarist Masayoshi Yamashita and drummer Masayuki Suzuki.
"When I meet Akira and his bandmates, I will ask them if they want to guest perform at my Search anniversary kick-off at Stadium Merdeka probably in October," said Amy.
"Our tour will then move on to Ipoh, Johor Baru and Kuala Terengganu and tickets won't be costly."
After Loudness, does Amy hope to perform with other foreign rock stars?
"My ultimate dream is to perform with Britain's Ozzy Osbourne and his former group Black Sabbath and America's Aerosmith with their frontman Steven Tyler," said Amy.
"Loudness Live In Kuala Lumpur" is organised by Clockwork Events as part of their Rock Legends Tour series in which other famous foreign rock bands will be brought to perform here. Tickets cost RM98 for free-standing lower tier areas, and RM138 for VIP, lounge, seated and standing in the upper tiers.
